Calibrite ColorChecker White Balance

Calibrite ColorChecker White Balance

The ColorChecker White Balance target is spectrally neutral to deliver accurate white reproduction for both photo and video workflows. Use it to perform custom in-camera white balance to guarantee precise, uniform, neutral white - under any lighting condition. Ideal for photographers and filmmakers. ColorChecker White Balance is a full-size version of the white balance target included in both ColorChecker Passport products. The actual colour of the target is a light gray which provides the best white balance result. You’ll be able to: Eliminate colour casts Improve the colour preview on your camera’s display so your histograms are more reliable Make post production colour editing faster and easier by eliminating the need to neutralize each image individually The ColorChecker White Balance target delivers accurate white reproduction. As lighting conditions change, your camera shifts the way it reproduces white; resulting in colour shifts in your photos or video footage. Most white balance targets aren’t neutral and could cause colours to shift under different lighting conditions. But the ColorChecker White Balance target is a scientifically engineered, absolute neutral white reference that prevents colour shifts and provides precise, uniform surface that is spectrally neutral – in any lighting condition. That means you can be confident the image or footage you capture is as close to real life as possible. ColorChecker White Balance also gives you a way to adjust your digital camera's colour sensitivity to exactly match the ambient lighting conditions; in effect, change what that the camera "sees." The perceived colour of white changes based on ambient conditions—outdoor it is perceived to be cooler, indoor it is perceived to be warmer, and under fluorescent light, greener. Even in a controlled studio environment, this can be a problem. Whether on location or in your studio, establishing an accurate custom white balance before each photo session or video shoot ensures accurate colours from the start. Setting a custom white balance for each lighting situation will make the previews on your camera’s built in display more colour correct, make your histograms more reliable, and speed up post production colour editing. Raw shooters can capture anytime during the session to gain these benefits, while JPEG shooters should make it your first shot. Why can’t I use just any white object? White balancing on a piece of paper or other gray element in the scene may seem like a simple workaround, but most objects are not actually neutral under all lighting conditions; and they’re certainly not consistent. An inaccurate white balance will result in colour casts and a lack of consistency between lighting conditions.

It provides the needed standard for comparing, measuring and analysing differences in colour reproduction in various processes—avoiding costly mistakes. The ColorChecker target is an array of 24 scientifically formulated colours that has been the leading industry colour reference target for more than 40 years. It is designed to deliver true-to-life colour reproduction so that photographers and filmmakers can predict and control how colour will look under any illumination. Each of the 24 colours found on a ColorChecker target represents the actual colour of natural objects, such as human skin tone, foliage and blue sky, and reflects light just like its real-world counterpart. Since these colours exemplify the colour of their counterparts in the natural world and reflect light the same way in all parts of the visible spectrum, the squares will match the colours of representative samples of natural objects under any illumination, and with any colour reproduction process. Each solid patch is formulated individually to produce a pure, flat, rich colour. ColorChecker targets have been used by Colour perfectionists for the past decade to create custom DNG profiles for Adobe Lightroom® and Photoshop® workflows. You can also build custom ICC camera profiles for use in Capture One® (or other ICC compatible software) when you combine ColorChecker targets with Calibrite ColorChecker Camera Calibration software. You’ll get accurate colour at capture based on specific lighting, camera and lens combination during any given shoot, saving valuable time in edit. Taking advantage of a ColorChecker target is easy. Simply include the ColorChecker in your photo or video capture and then later, while editing use it to compare, measure and analyse differences in colour reproduction in any colour rendition system. The ColorChecker can help you make global corrections based on accurate information. If you shoot a large number of images that all require the same colour correction, you know that editing a few key photos and applying your changes can sometimes change colours you didn’t intend to be changed. A shot of the ColorChecker captured under the same lighting as your images will provide a point of reference, so you can see exactly how changes will affect the rest of your colours before you apply them. This objective standard will help you avoid costly mistakes and trial-and-error colour adjustments while editing your images or colour grading. 3rd Party Software Support: Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Lightroom via a free plugin Color Finale Black Magic DaVinci Resolve for colour grading in a video editing workflow Hasselblad Phocus for ICC camera profiling 3DLUT Creator DxO Photolab 4
