Arpeggiology Gtr Bk/Dvd

Arpeggiology Gtr Bk/Dvd

The FINGERBOARD series was created to progressively improve upon fretboard knowledge, sight-reading, and all other topics, and to be included in a study plan that corresponds to the other volumes in my catalogue of educational material. In this 4th Volume of the FINGERBOARD series we get a deeper knowledge of MELODIC ARPEGGIOS: that’s why I named it ARPEGGIOLOGY.3, 4 and 5 note arpeggios are fundamental not only to understanding and knowing the fretboard but to improvisation in any genre of music. For this reason you will see arpeggios to be studied with different techniques, fingerings and voicings on the fretboard: from the CAGED system and arpeggio inversions (very useful in jazz) to sweep picking arpeggios and ngerings more suitable to shredding! There are also “Unit Recaps” that will help you find harmonic shortcuts and create examples to put into use immediately on your own! A NEW APPROACH TO TEACHING IN THESE EDUCATIONAL BOOKS: Hours of video content ready for your television, computer, hand-held device, phone or tablet You will get the maximum results from each lesson by watching the video with the book open in front of you! It’s like having a personal, private lesson with me. You will find that some lessons put more importance on the video and others more on the written lesson. In the ROM section of the DVD you will find videos ready for your portable devices, some playalong mp3s to study with (the same ones I use in the video) and the “click to speed up” function, my idea to help you successfully increase your velocity little by little. Copy the files to your portable device, whether a new-generation phone, tablet or any other device, and bring my lessons with you! Backing tracks are in the DVD’s ROM section, all the examples in the Video DVD

Louisiana Hayride : Radio and Roots Music along the Red River

Louisiana Hayride : Radio and Roots Music along the Red River

In Louisiana Hayride - Radio And Roots Music Along The Red River, Tracey E.W. Laird documents the history of the popular radio station, exploring the role that northwestern Louisiana played in thedevelopment of both country music and rock and roll. This interdisciplinary study that combines original ethnomusicology research with social and oral history. On a Saturday night in 1948, Hank Williams stepped onto thestage of the Louisiana Hayride and sang 'Lovesick Blues.' Up to that point, Williams's yodeling style had been pigeon-holed as hillbilly music, cutting him off from the mainstream of popular music. Taking a chance on thisuntriedartist, the Hayride—a radio 'barn dance' or country music variety show like the Grand Ole Opry—not only launched Williams's career, but went on to launch the careers of well-known performers such as Jim Reeves, Webb Pierce,Kitty Wells, Johnny Cash, and Slim Whitman. Broadcast from Shreveport, Louisiana, the local station KWKH's 50,000-watt signal reached listeners in over 28 states and lured them to packed performances of the Hayride's roadshow. By tracing the dynamic history of the Hayride and its sponsoring station, ethnomusicologist Tracey Laird reveals the critical role that this part of northwestern Louisiana played in the development of both countrymusic and rock and roll. Delving into the past of this Red River city, she probes the vibrant historical, cultural, and social backdrop for its dynamic musical scene. Sitting between the Old South and the West, this one-timefrontier town provided an ideal setting for the cross-fertilization of musical styles. The scene was shaped by the region's easy mobility, the presence of a legal 'red-light' district from 1903-17, and musical interchanges betweenblacks and whites, who lived in close proximity and in nearly equal numbers. The region nurtured such varied talents as Huddie Ledbetter, the 'king of the twelve-string guitar,' and Jimmie Davis, the two term 'singing governor' of

Nico Muhly: Sentences (Vocal Score)

Nico Muhly: Sentences (Vocal Score)

Nico Muhly's  Sentences  for Countertenor and Chamber Orchestra. Composed: 2014 Duration: 30 minutes Composers Note: Sentences is a thirty-minute meditation, in collaboration with Adam Gopnik, on several episodes drawn from the life and work of Alan Turing. Turing lived, in a sense, many different lives, but at the heart of his work was, I think, a very musical set of anxieties. Even the idea of code-breaking is inherently musical; the French for score-reading is déchiffrage: deciphering. His wartime work on the Enigma code translated, later in life, to a more nuanced relationship to code in the form of a primitive but emotionally (and philosophically) complicated artificial intelligence. The piece uses a single voice not to speak necessarily as Turing, but as a guide through these various episodes. I’ve always felt that the question of sentient computers is wildly emotional: we anthropomorphise the Mars Rover, imagining its solitude on that dusty planet. Any act of communication in which the second person is unseen can be a one-way conversation. An email, sent, can never be returned — did it arrive or did it not? —, or a text message can be delivered but never read. The thrill of a fast response is immediately tempered with the harsh but empty rudeness of an out-of-office reply. Anybody who has made a condolence phone call only to hear the voice of the deceased on the outgoing answering machine message knows the complexities of what could be a simple binary communication.
