This piece was written after a vacation to Dubai in 2011. A Joyous Day is a positive melody which express expectations, hope and joy. The melodic theme alternates between the instrumental sections to create more variation to the piece. The rhytmic accompaniment is quite simple in form but with challenges in some parts. Twinkle, Twinkle with a Wrinkle

One of the worlds most widely known melodies, Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star is based on a French melody (Ah! Vous dirai-je, maman) first published in 1761. The lyrics were first published in 1806, in a collection of nursery rhymes by Jane Taylor. This arrangement begins with a traditional version of the melody before developing into different rhythmic treatments of the tune. This gives young musicians an introduction to elements of style.

Farvel til en slavisk kvinne : Farewell to a Slavic Woman

Vasili Agapkin was trained as a trumpet player and a cavalryman. «Farewell to a Slavoc Woman» was composed in 1912 and is dedicated to all Slavic women. The march has had many different texts throughout the years, becoming very popular during the First World War. The composer is known for this march only. Today, the march has a kind of a «National March» status in his native Russia.

This song was written in 1931 by Fabian Andre and Wilbur Schwandt with lyrics by Gus Kahn. It’s now one of the most popular songs from the Great American Songbook and it’s also recorded in many versions. Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong and Nat King Cole are among the most famous ones that have recorded it. In later years singers like Michael Bublè, Diana Krall land Robin Williams have all recorded “Dream a Little Dream of Me”. This arrangement is inspired by the version by American band Chicago from their 1995 album release “Night & Day”.

Grim : Folkloric Pastiche for Wind Band

Grim was commissioned by Sandviken Ungdomskorps in 1998. Grim is a folkloristic pastiche, but also with a jazz-flavoured inspiration. The piece ends with the folk-music played on top of a theme from a march: "Sandvikguttenes marsj" to salute the band that commissioned the music. The title is taken from the word "grimen", a kind of troll that lives in water. He teaches fiddlers how to play if they offer him food a Thursday night in a north-faced waterfall.Grim was commissioned by Sandviken Ungdomskorps in 1998. The Jazz Police

This is really a powerhouse of a piece! Hard-driving rock’n roll at a high tempo with the Jazz Police at the heels… Please note the dynamics. Tempo and good articulation is a very big part of the energy of this piece. Fortissimo first appears at bar 113. A useful tip: It’s possible to practice this one also at lower dynamic levels.

La Ville Blanche et Bleue

This piece is a kind of flashback on my experiences of my time as an amateur musician in my hometown of Gjøvik (often called “The White City”). It was at a time when the expressionas had to be created by myself and the music performed by the band (“The Liverflower”) was a kind of a voyage of discovery for a young boy. A lot of the music I played at that time has shaped me as composer and musician. I remember the beautiful melodies and the rhythmic passages with a nostalgic smile. Maybe this music can make an impression on new generations of band musicians.

Another Way Home

“Another Way Home” is a pop-tune written originally for Concert Band. It’s a kind of sequel to the previously released “Walking Home”. Both “Another Way Home” and “Walking Home” were composed for Blåsmasters, a Swedish Concert Band based in Stockholm.
