Robert Muczynski: Sonatina For Piano

Sonatina For Piano (1949) is a work for solo Piano, scored in three movements: Allegro Con Spirito – Andante Con Espressione – Allegro Vivace . It was the first published work of the American composer and pianist Robert Muczynski (1929 - 2010), who also performed it at his Master’s degree recital in 1952. Muczynski composed all his Piano works at the keyboard, with the intention of performing them – he disliked academic analysis of his music and wanted people to just “let it be”. As a result, his music is imbued with a character and personality of its own. Often dismissed as “traditional” by critics, his works remain highly playable and popular today.

Bernhard Heiden (1910 - 2000) was a German conductor, composer, and music teacher, who settled in the United States in 1935. He started composing pieces at the age of 6, and studied Piano, Clarinet, and Violin from an early age. Much of his music is for either chamber groups or solo wind or string instruments with Piano. His Sonatina For Clarinet And Piano is one of this most frequently played works. It is written in three movements: Con Moto, Andante, and Vivace .

Frederic Chopin: Nocturne In C Sharp Minor (Posthumous)

This composition was never called a Nocturne by Chopin. It was probably written in 1830 when he was 20 years old, for his sister Louise, and was marked simply Lento, con gran espressione. It cannot be said to be in the form of a Nocturne, as Nocturnes are not written in any definite form, but the content justifies the name.
