Editio Musica Budapest launches a new series for the youngest pupils of string instruments based on the model of the popular 'Leggiero' series. Each part of the pieces included in the volumes of 'Leggerissimo' can be played in the first position which enables children to get a foretaste of the pleasure of playing in an orchestra after merely some years of instrumental studies. The first volume contains the arrangement of 18th-century Hungarian dance tunes. In addition to strings, the orchestral sound may be enriched by percussion instruments ad libitum.

This two-movement work was written in 2003 for an exceptionally talented pupil at the music school that bears the composer's name. The first movement is a song-like composition based on many sustained notes, the second movement is a cheerful, fast-moving piece. We recommend it to music school students in the upper year-groups. (With part for Si b clarinet)

This collection is a selection of excerpts from Bach cantatas, chosen not only for the beauty of their musical content but because from the pedagogical point of view too they deserve a place in a publication intended for educational purposes. The excerpts embrace two distinct areas of Baroque vocal music, the melodic realms of the aria and the recitative. The aria and arioso quotations in the collection, generally presented without accompaniment, are intended for sight-singing. The aria and recitative excerpts with continuo accompaniment also provide students with serious harmonization tasks and are therefore principally related to their music theory studies. Volume Icontains the easier cantata excerpts, Volume II the more difficult ones.

The composer writes about his work: “The piece was written for the 2006 Spring Festival. The wording of the commission requested me to try to express what a Mozart opera means to our era. It was as a banner rather than as an internal motto that I used this one sentence: ‘Die Strahlen der Sonne vertreiben die Nacht, zernichten der Heuchler erschlichene Macht.’ (‘The rays of the sun expel the night and annihilate the power of the Deceiver’). At that time and in our day too, only as his last utterance in the final act can Sarastro announce this to the people gathered around him.”
