The book introduces the player to the history of the Viola da Gamba and to the necessary techniques to be able to play. The book is divided as per below as if it were a game: the first part, “Pieces of the game” explains where the instrument comes from and the “Rules of the Game” part gives directions to follow to be able to play the instrument. It includes scales, studies, scales and small pieces, as well as advice. This really interesting volume requires some solid music theory knowledge.

Commissioned by Ensemble Sillages and IMEP de Namur, and premiered on 24 January 2009 by Isabel Soccoja (mezzo-soprano) and A da Aragoneses (harp) at Auditorium du Quartz, Brest. The composer writes: 'Beyond Time is a sort ofchallenge to try and grasp the ungraspable, the fleeting, the inaccessible. The work consists of five sections that follow each other without a gap, revealing five allegories of Time: Virtual Instant, Mirror of Time, The Abyss ofTime, Paradoxal Spirals, Beyond Time.'

Armando Ghidoni: Yellow Green (Clarinet Quartet)

Melodic charm, bel canto sensibility, impressionist harmony à la Française and jazz rhythm influences unite in this quartet for three B-flat Clarinets and Bass Clarinet. Yellow Green was premiered on July 23rd, 2013 at the Teatro Municipal de Niterói (Rio de Janeiro) by the musicians of the Omega Quartet: Maurício Silva, Deusiel da Cunha de Souza, Diego Abreu and Mateus Falkemback (bass clarinet).  Approximately 9 minutes in length, the title – Yellow Green – is a tribute to the two colours of the Brazilian flag. The introduction gives way to a vast Fugue (marked Vivace) dipped in the colours of swing. The central Adagio floats a dreamy, timeless melody. The brief finale brings together the fugue’s thematic material with one last recommendation for the performers: “Feel jazz”. This invigorating work was recorded for the Chant de Linos label by its dedicatees, the Omega Quartet clarinetists.
