Tree Fern Dicksonia Antractica Log

Tree Fern Dicksonia Antractica Log

Tree ferns were a firm plant hunter's favourite from Victorian times, a symbol of wealth and travel experiences to Australia. They have maintained this sense of mystique ever since. Now you too can grow these surprisingly easy and exotic looking plants too.Harvested under strict license from woodland clearance in Australia and Tasmania, these astonishing plants really will delight and amaze. They grow under the woodland canopy, in the shade, so grow them here in a sheltered spot too. These 'potter' logs are already over 10 years old, and have been cut back and harvested dormant. When you water them via the top crown, they will burst back to life, like it's the new rainy season! Because they grow in leaf canopies, most of their food comes from leaves falling into their giant shuttlecock like fronds, funnelling the goodness into the growing crown. Even at this size of log at 30cm tall, new fronds of almost 1m in length will unfurl spectacularly in time. It's amazing when they come how quickly they grow. The plant is hardy down to -5C in winter, although the fronds will die back. Cutting these off when they die back is what creates the new trunk, which slowly inches up over many, many years. Keep the crown protected in winter with a layer of straw or wrap in a layer of horticultural fleece to keep cold and wet out. When you get it home, plant it in a big pot, or in the garden soil. Supplied dormant, with fronds that unfurl with time. Some may take up to two months for notable growth, but trust us, the wait will certainly be worth it!

Because they grow in leaf canopies, most of their food comes from leaves falling into their giant shuttlecock like fronds, funnelling the goodness into the growing crown. That's hard to achieve in UK gardens so we provide 500ml of concentrated tree fern food, which mimics this feeding method. Even at this size of log at 18-25cm tall, new fronds of almost 1M in length will unfurl spectacularly within a Month or so of you watering it. It's amazing when they come how quickly they grow. It takes almost 2 years to root in, so do not be alarmed by this slow growing beauty.

Canary Island Date Palm Tree

Canary Island Date Palm Tree

Something impressive for your garden - a big and exotic palm tree with spreading deep green leaves that arch with elegance from a stout trunk. The Phoenix Palm is an undeniable talking point, stretching up to more than 12m when in its native Canary Islands - but do not fret as it will remain manageable in UK gardens, rarely exceeding heights of 2m. Plus, during a hot summer, you can see drooping bunches of creamy-yellow flowers.Add this beauty to your patio or garden to create a holiday feel for years to come - instantly conjuring up scenes of a tropical paradise, where the huge leaves waft on the sea breeze.Holding a prestigious RHS Award of Garden Merit, the Canary Island Date Palm makes an excellent evergreen specimen plant for the patio or conservatory. Cordyline australis Green

Cordyline australis Green

A fabulous statement Cordyline to bring a tropical feel to the garden in little time - this established plant arrives already at least 1.2m tall! Fantastically versatile, this variety looks perfect as a specimen plant in a bed, border, or in a decorative pot as an eye-catching feature to provide instant impact in even the most compact of spaces.Alternatively, it can be planted in a modern container and placed by a door, gateway, or at the end of a path to create an exotic focal point.Attractive swirls of long, sword-like leaves fan out symmetrically from a central, slow-growing trunk; and being evergreen, it will look superb and healthy through the year, maintaining colour and structure. In summer, mature plants produce clusters of sweetly-scented, ivory-white blossom, followed by ornamental berries in autumn. The bigger the plant, the hardier it will become - it can withstand temperatures down to -7C, but we always recommend using frost-protection fleece or wrapping, or bringing container-grown plants into a garage, porch, or greenhouse during the coldest winters. Place in a sunny spot and it will thrive for years to come!Supplied as an established plant, approx. 120-130cm tall in a 10 litre pot, ready to plant. Please note: Delivery may take up to 14 days for this product.
