Garden Bloom Chrysanthemums bear a single large flower rather than the multiple flowers that Spray types produce. These are really fashionable with top florists and command very high prices per stem, so if you grow your own you can have a magnificent display indoors and out and also save a small fortune! Throughout the growing season, remove the side shoots on a fortnightly basis (these are the little growths between the leaves and the stem) as this directs all of the energy in to the single large top flower. They bloom from September to October, so they make a perfect companion to the spray chrysanthemums, with each plant giving you approximately 3-4 stems of cut-able flowers. They are ready to cut as soon as you see the first sign of colour appearing and when they get to this stage, cut the stems quite low down, around 15cm (6') from the ground level, and remove the lower leaves from the cut stems prior to plunging them in to a tall vase of cold water. As an indoor display, they will last at least 2 weeks, but do change the water every few days as this keeps them in the best possible condition. Support them throughout the growing season with a strong bamboo cane per plant. Although a little more work is involved in growing Bloom Chrysanthemums, the quality and impact of the flowers will more than repay you for your effort!

Buxus feed contains vital plant foods and trace elements for good establishment and strong healthy growth box. The fertiliser provides an extended nitrogen release to ensure nutrients are available as the plants grow.Directions for use:Note: 1 small gloved handful contains approximately 30g (1oz)Planting Buxus in permanent positions:Buxus is best planted in autumn or spring. The ground should be cultivated to at least 8in depth for best results. For individual 15-20cm (6-8in) containers or bare-root plants, take 60g (2oz) of feed and sprinkle part of it into the bottom of the planting hole and fork in. Use the balance of the fertiliser with the fill-in soil and firm in the plant. For hedge planting use 60-120g Buxus feed per linear metre of planting.For larger container stock (greater than 20cm or 8in) apply 60g to the platting hole, lightly fork in and mix 60g into the fill in soil.Top DressingBuxus hedges can benefit from a regular top dressing when planting in a permanent position in the ground. Apply evenly to the soil as recommended below, when the soil is moistWhen top dressing containers use 1 teaspoonful per 15-20cm (6-8in) of pot diameter, working into the surface of the soil where possible.In the spring following planting, sprinkle 60g (2oz) of feed evenly into the soil under the canopy. Repeat the application at the end of June or early July. For best results, apply during dry conditions, hoe in lightly and water well.Buxus feed can safely be used as a top dressing for other shrubs and trees (except those preferring ericaceous soil). In March, apply 60g for plants up to 60cm (2ft); for plants to 120cm (4ft) apply 120g and for standard trees use 180g. Repeat the application at the end of June/early July.

In their native habitat, tree ferns grow in dense shady wooded areas, beneath the main tree canopy. Leaves falling off trees gather in the crown of the tree fern, and mix with rain, slowly feeding the top of the log, where the new fronds emerge. This is unlikely to happen here in UK gardens, even in shady areas, so this specialist tree fern feed mimics the nutrients provided in their habitat, with a balanced feed to encourage strong frond growth.
