Raspberry Glen Ample Long Canes

Raspberry Glen Ample Long Canes

Long cane raspberries are your opportunity to benefit from a massive breakthrough in raspberry fruit production! Raspberries usually produce their fruit on the previous year's growth of canes. However, they are often sold in garden centres cut back as short canes - great value, but you have to wait an extra year for fruit. Now, with long canes you will get fruit in the first season, because they have not been cut back - they are harvested at about 1m or taller and will fruit this summer.A great garden variety, not too vigorous, yet fruiting early to mid-season in July and August and producing good bright red sweet fruits. You will get around a pound of fruit or more per cane for 4-5 years. These raspberries will fruit on the full length of the canes you receive so do not prune them down when you plant them!Fully deserving its coveted RHS Award of Garden Merit, you can be sure this is a proven garden performer, guaranteed to be suitable for UK gardeners at every level of experience. You can therefore plant this in the garden with confidence, for stunning displays for many years to come. This raspberry variety, 'Glen Ample', has also been recommended as a 'Plant for Pollinators'.If space is at a premium, grow them in large pots in a wigwam form it will look great and also produce massive amounts or fruit in the minimum of space! Otherwise, plant in rows about 60cm apart, using supporting wires for easier fruit picking. Take advantage of new long cane raspberry production techniques for bigger and quicker crops.Supplied as long canes, each approximately 100-120cm tall which means you will get fruit this year!

Beetroot Boltardy Seeds

Beetroot Boltardy Seeds

A popular and reliable variety of beetroot, 'Boltardy' is an award-winning, proven gardener's favourite that produces plentiful crops of deep red, globe-shaped roots with a superbly sweet flavour. With fabulously sweet and tender roots, this delicious variety is perfect for cooking - whether roasting or pickling, or for soups and salads. Not only tasty, it is good for you, too, being an excellent source of folate, with good levels of potassium and vitamin C. The green leaves and stems also make good, nutritious eating when harvested young, at about 5-8cm tall. Rich in iron and vitamins, they have a similar flavour to leafy veg such as spinach, kale or Swish chard - delicious when steamed, sautéed or added to soups or stews, or even raw in a salad.Holding the RHS Award of Garden Merit, 'Boltardy' is guaranteed to give high-yielding, high-quality crops that are bolt-resistant, so can be sown for early to late harvesting. The roots' smooth skin, vibrant colour and ring-free flesh also make it a top choice for showing - and popular for organic gardening.Sow outdoors from March to July where they are to crop. They will thrive in a sunny position in fertile, light soil that is moist but well-drained. For maximum yields, sow every 2 to 3 weeks from February to June to ensure a constant supply through the season. Lift young roots to use as 'baby beets', leaving every other in a row to mature to a larger size, if desired. The larger beets can then be stored in dry sand, soil or peat in a cool position to ensure supplies through the winter.Supplied as a packet of approx. 180 seeds ready to sow outdoors March to July, 30cm (12in) apart, directly in their growing position, for harvesting June to October.

Sweet Corn Swift F1 Seeds

Sweet Corn Swift F1 Seeds

A very early Xtra-Tender© variety, 'Swift F1' has been specifically bred to give very sweet and succulent cobs. Quick to grow from seed, the vigorous plants produce good-sized cobs of up to 20cm long, with golden-yellow kernels that have a mouth-wateringly rich flavour.A worthy recipient of the RHS Award of Garden Merit, 'Swift F1' is easy to grow and a reliably good cropper - a great choice for beginner and experienced gardeners alike. It is also one of the best crops for getting children interested in gardening as the seeds germinate soon after sowing, grow to an impressive size and produce delicious corn cobs that they will relish.Cobs can be cooked whole - simply remove the husks and boil the cobs for a few minutes, roast in the oven or wrap them in foil for the barbeque. They can also be eaten raw; just strip off the kernels with a sharp knife and add them to salads for an extra sweet crunch. Sweetcorn is rich in fibre and a good source of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. The cobs are best eaten soon after picking but will keep for a few days in the fridge and they freeze well.Sweetcorn thrives in a sunny position. Sow indoors March to May for planting out in May to June; or sow the seeds outdoors in May, directly into their cropping position in well-cultivated, fertile soil. Flowers will appear approximately 8 weeks after sowing and mature cobs can be picked after 16 weeks - or pick for baby corn 1 to 2 days after the silks emerge, when the ear is up to 10cm (4in) long.Supplied as a packet of 35 (approx.) seeds ready to sow indoors or outdoors in their growing position. Grows to a height of up to 200cm (79in) and spread up to 45cm (18in).
