Beholder is an adventure game developed by the independent studio Warm Lamp Games. The developers were inspired by the works of George Orwell, Aldous Huxley and Ray Bradbury. The title made its debut on personal computers, and after some time also hit mobile devices and consoles.
Released on the PC platform, Switch, etc. Beholder takes the player to a dystopian world, where the lives of citizens are subject to the rules set by an authoritarian government; privacy is non-existent, and neither is freedom of speech. The main character of the game is Carl Shteyn - the manager of the apartment building, whose official duty is to take care of the residents' comfort. His profession, however, is a cover, because the real goal of the protagonist is to keep an eye on residents and report on the discovered evidence that confirms their activities to the detriment of the totalitarian order.
The plot of the game has many ramifications, depending on the decisions we make. We often have to make morally ambiguous choices, where the welfare of the citizens is on one side and the maintenance of our own family is on the other. So the story can end in many ways.
The time has come to tell the stories of:
the one who has fallen a victim to a horrifying mistake, and is now desperately seeking for salvation;
the ones who broke the law to find happiness and are now facing the consequences;
the one who risked his life for the State but has been left behind;
the one who had everything but lost it all; and
the one who mews!
