The fabric is printed in Helsinki. This fabric is printed with natural indigo, a plant-based dye extracted from Finnish woad. The colour may fade a little during the first few washes and use. Maija Isola drew inspiration for her work from her countless trips around the world. Pulloposti (message in a bottle) was originally part of a collection entitled Aurinko ja Meri (The Sun and the Sea), in which patterns were inspired by the island of Crete in the Mediterranean Sea. The dress has narrow ribbons at the neckline, a concealed button closure, side seam pockets, and a curved hem. The cuffed sleeves have button closures. This product is made of 100% organic cotton. In 1961, Maija Isola spent many evenings and nights working in Marimekko’s print factory – painting in gentle, sweeping brushstrokes to the sway of music. Meter upon meter of new patterns emerged.
