Double Dragon Trilogy is a compilation of the first three installments of the cult series of action games, included in the classics of the so-called "Walking" fights. The series was launched in 1987 on showroom vending machines, and its subsequent editions saw the light of day in 1988 and 1990. DotEmu, specializing in re-releases of classic hits, is responsible for refreshing these more than a quarter-century-old titles.
Created for fun in co-op mode, the Double Dragon series tells the story of two brothers: Billy and Jimmy Lee - the masters of Sou-Setsu-Ken, who run a small school of eastern martial arts in post-apocalyptic New York. In the first part of the game, the brothers set out to help Billy's girlfriend, Marian, kidnapped by the Black Warriors gang. The second part tells about the brothers' revenge for Marian's death and the search for a way to restore her life. In the third installment of the series, our heroes travel the world in search of the mythical Rosetta stones, which are to stop the ancient evil lurking in Egypt.
Gameplay
All parts of the series are characterized by similar gameplay mechanics. Moving constantly to the right side of the screen, we eliminate successive waves of enemies, using quite a large set of punches and kicks (including "knee" and "head" hits) and not entirely legal weapons. The game takes place in two modes: Arcade - our main goal is to obtain the highest possible score - and Story, where as the game progresses, we unlock new arenas and achievements. Double Dragon Trilogy returns in a slightly tweaked frame with the use of the latest filters, although the authors also left the option of turning on the original graphics for traditionalists. Unlike the original, we can choose one of three difficulty levels: easy, original and expert. We can also decide whether the game is to be accompanied by a remastered or original 8-bit soundtrack. The possibility of changing the control model and cooperation with typical game controllers was also taken care of. We can take part in the game alone or in cooperation mode.
