Black Tears Dry Spiced Rum Coming from Cuba, a place where people don’t hold back and they express their true emotions - this is a drink made to evoke emotion. This even goes into where the name came from. Inspiration was taken from a Cuban song (Lagrimas Negras), which tells the story of a young woman who was so overcome with emotion that she sobbed into a vat of rum, filling it with her sorrows. Black Tears is a rum pack full of emotion, which aims to celebrate the contemporary Cuba. This is a blend of Cuban rum and spices. Its based on a silver dry rum from one of the best Cuban distilleries and is the first dry spiced cuban rum on the market. Setting itself apart from other spiced rums, this has a bittersweet taste and a low sugar content (typical for Cuban rums). The spices used are coffee and cacao, and aji dulce (a sweet pepper, used heavily in local cuisine).  This is a rum which has a cool, golden intensity - which is both bright and clear. The flavour has a gentle sweetness from cocoa, which is accompanied with a punch from coffee on the finish. There is also an intruiging peppery spice, which lingers deliciously.  This is an elegant, and overall very well-balanced dry spiced rum. Blind Tiger Piper Cubeba Gin Whilst it gives a striking look to the bottle, there is a reason behind the name of Blind Tiger. Another name for a speakeasy, A blind tiger was a hidden bar which served alcohol during the period of prohibition. The door of the place would have the picture of a blind tiger or a blind pig, so those in the know would know where to go! Blind Tiger's Piper Cubeba gin is made in small batches in a "concealed" distillery in the west of Belgium, they macerate and distill the botanicals together before adding double distilled cubeb pepper. Daring and invigorating, this gin has a unique blend of botanicals, which give it a distinct spicy profile from the cubeb pepper, which is joined with hints of citrus from orange. Unusually, they use malted barley in their distillation along with the required juniper. These are joined with corriander seeds, bitter orange peel, orange blossom, ginger, green cardamom, lavender and licorice, angelica and orris root. Finally, a secret Belgian botanical is added. Definitely a spicy gin, with clear citrus notes. The end finish is spicy too, with the piper cubeb (pepper) coming through as well as a warmth from the malted barley and earthy notes from ginger liquorice and cardamom.   Read more about Blind Tiger Perfect Serve Whilst this is really delicious drunk on its own over ice, having it as a gin tonic brings out a slightly different character. Licor 43 Original This Spanish liquer was first produced by the Zamora family in Spain, Licor 43 has a a history which goes back to 1946. In fact, it was inspired by a golden and aromatic elixir called Liqvor Mirabilis which was banned by the Romans! With the arrival of tourism in the 60's the world discovered Licor 43, and it truly became a taste of Spain to many. Now in the 21st century, Licor 43 is available in well over fifty countries, and is the most international Spanish liqueur.  Licor 43 liqueur is exceptionally smooth, and has a instantly recognisable golden colour. The name hints at the recipe, with there being 43 all natural ingredients involved in its creation.  The bright golden hue of the drink really does reflect its Mediterranean heritage, evoking feelings of sun drenched golden beaches.  Whilst Licor 43 is a secret blend, it has a complex flavour profile. It is sweet, with a strong blend of citrus. There is a mild spiciness, with a touch of coriander, and floral notes from soft orange and lemon blossoms. There are botanical notes, and a hint of fruity warmth from ripe fruit. Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish Gin Created at the edge of a lake, in a small Irish town called Drumshanbo (from where the gin gets it's name). It's here you will find The Shed Distillery. This is a gin which is far from ordinary, they slow-distil their gin using some of natures finest oriental botanicals, along with gunpowder tea. The bottle itself hints at the creativity behind this gin. Showing the Jackalope, a creature of mystery and wonder. It is the mythological progeny of a jackrabbit, and an antelope. Apparently conceived during a lightning storm - the Jackalope appears in Drumshanbo at will.... like a dream. There one minute, gone the next in a flurry of feet and antlers. Drumshanbo is about bringing together previously unrelated things, for the first time - but likely not the last. Seeing possibilities in the unusual. Its for this reason the Jackalope has become the symbol of the remarkable Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish Gin. A whole range of botanicals are used in the creation of this gin, inspired by the travels of PJ Rigney, the Master Distiller. Using juniper, coriander, star anise, orris carrot, chinese lemon, grapefruit, kafir lime and (as the name suggests) gunpowder tea. The gunpowder tea is a green tea which has been slowly dried, and gives a bold, bright and slightly spiced freshness to the gin. The nose on this gin is refreshingly light, and citrus-forward. There is a citrus zest note which blends with herbaceous juniper, as well as a little juniper. On the palate this is a blast! It explodes with flavours, with citrus dominating. Grapefruit really shines through here. Mid palate the juniper and tea come through, along with a bright note from juniper. The gin finishes quieter, slightly sweet with herbal notes. Anise, cardamom are subtle, and lead into meadowsweet - which lends a delicate honey vanilla nuance.  Whilst this has a rather eccentric blend of botanicals, they all work exceptionally well together, and the gin is a very balanced one. Ballantine's Finest Whisky With a heritage that dates back to 1827, Ballantines is one of the most known and loved Scotch Whisky brands in the world. It started with George Ballantine in a small grocery store in Edinburgh. Here he would supply a range of whiskies to his customers. his developed into a larger establishment in Edinburgh, where along with his son George Junior they began to create their own blends. In 1920, the recipe for Ballantine's Finest was created, and it has stayed true to the original ever since. The result is a whisky which has become Europe's No. 1 Scotch Whisky, and was voted the World's Best Blended Scotch in 2020. Fun Fact: During prohibition, the bottles were designed to be square so that American Salesmen could conceal them in their briefcases without them rolling around should any inspectors be around! Finest is a great classic all-rounder. It has a light gold colour, and a nose which is soft, with notes of heather, honey and just a hint of delicate spice. The flavour is balanced well, subtle, and has hints of milk chocolate, red apples and vanilla. The finish leaves the palate feeling fresh, with a floral after-taste. Using only quality ingredients, Cointreau source oranges from Brazil to Spain, and Ghana to Morocco. They utilise a blend of the sweet and bitter orange peels and blend them.  The result ia balanced, versatile, and exceptionally aromatic. Whilst the bottle is a deep amber colour (and instantly recognisable), the liqueur inside is transparent. When opening the bottle you are instantly greeted by the blend of oranges. Zesty, fresh and floral, it has a sweetness to it too. The flavour is fresh yet it lingers pleasantly on the palate and is (unsurprisingly) intensely orange in flavour. Chase Original Potato Vodka Using a true 'field-to-bottle' philosophy, Chase is a family run distillery. They grow the potatoes they use to create their family of quality spirits. Their farm, and distillery is located in Herefordshire, in the west of England (close to the Welsh border).  To create one bottle of their Potato Vodka, Chase use 250 of their home-grown potatoes. The vodka is created by mashing the potatoes, and distilling them in their copper pot still (which they affectionately call 'Fat Betty').  The result is a smooth a creamy vodka. On the nose there is a mild hint of freshly sliced potato, true to its origins. On the palate there is a creamy texture, with a butteriness to it which ensures the mouth is coated well helping to impart the full flavour. The finish is clean and smooth, and leaves hints of earthy mineral undertones. The Glenlivet Founders Reserve Whisky For their Founders Reserve, The Glenlivet have created an expression which is a tribute to George Smith, their founder. This has all the classic flavours of The Glenlivet, but is a a smooth creamier expression. They have utilised the time-honoured distillation methods which George Smith used, as well as the same mountain stream water.  This is then matured in traditional oak casks. When George Smith created his blends, there were no age-statements on whisky's. Instead he utilised his freedom in selecting and blending, and with this expression The Glenlivet have done the same - selecting whisky from traditional ages oak casks from a range of ages. To give a modern twist, their Mast Distiller (Alan Winchester) then marries a selection of the aged oak casks and American first-fill oak casks. These first-fill oak casks haven't been used to mature whisky, and when used selectively provide a smooth, creamy sweetness. This intermingles perfectly with the delicate flavours and fruity tonies already in the whisky.  The result is a whisky that The Glenlivet believe their founder would approve of. It has a pale gold colour, which gives an aroma full of sweet citrus fruits, with orange being predominant. In the mouth the orange again comes through, with a zestiness which is complimented by pear flavours and a touch of toffee apples. The flavours give a delicious blend of creamy sweetness and a refreshing zestiness from the citrus. The finish is pleasantly long, very smooth and creamy right to the end. In a cocktail shaker filled with ice add 50ml of the whisky, 5 - 6 fresh raspberries, 15ml lemon juice, 5ml of white balsamic vinegar and 15ml of sugar syrup.
