Roku Gin In het Japans vertaalt Roku zich als het nummer zes. Gemaakt in Japan door de Suntory-distilleerderij, de naam komt van de unieke plantenextracten die worden gebruikt bij het maken van Roku Gin. Samen met enkele meer traditionele botanische producten (jeneverbessen, koriander, engelwortel, engelwortelzaad, kardemom, kaneel, bittere sinaasappelschil en citroenschil), zijn er zes zeer speciale botanische ingrediënten die zorgvuldig in Japan worden ingekocht. Ze gebruiken de seizoensgebonden overvloed die in Japan wordt gevonden om de specifieke Japanse botanische producten te verzamelen. In de lente worden Sakura-bloem en -blad geselecteerd. In de zomer thee van Sencha en Gykuro. De herfst brengt Sansho-peper en het einde van de seizoenen, en botanische ingrediënten zijn yuzu (een soort citrus) schil die in de winter wordt geoogst. Suntory's beheersing van het selectie- en distillatieproces is verkregen door tientallen jaren gin te maken. Ze ontwikkelden hun eigen meervoudige distillatieproces vanwege de unieke kenmerken die elke botanische stof toevoegt aan de perfect uitgebalanceerde mix van Roku Gin. Het is door deze toewijding dat hun meesterschap duidelijk in hun gin kan worden geproefd. Het aroma zelf geeft hints van het Japanse erfgoed, waarbij kersenbloesem en groene thee zowel een bloemig als een zoet aroma geven. De smaak is vrij complex, maar met een harmonieuze smaakbalans die wordt geboden door de gevarieerde botanische ingrediënten. De achtergrondnoten zijn van een traditionele gin, met middentonen die verwijzen naar Japanse invloeden, terwijl er een duidelijke citrus topnoot is van de yuzu. Het eindigt met een knapperige sansho peper-kruidigheid, die gedefinieerd is, maar niet overweldigend. Over het algemeen heeft het een gladde en zijdezachte textuur. Ze suggereren een gembergarnituur als aanvulling op de yuzu- en sakura-kruiden die in de gin worden aangetroffen. Snijd de gember in zes gelijke lange, dunne plakjes. Vul een hoog glas tot de rand met ijs en voeg de plakjes gember toe. Voeg 50 ml van de gin toe en vul het glas dan bij met een neutrale tonic (wij raden Three Cents Tonic Water aan). Suntory The Chita Whisky Gelegen op het Chita-schiereiland (nabij Nagoya in Japan), is de Chita-distilleerderij (die eigendom is van Suntory) een inventieve graanwhisky-distilleerderij. Ze maken een divers aanbod aan graanwhisky's van hoge kwaliteit met behulp van twee, drie of vier kolommen. Ze gebruiken drie verschillende soorten graanwhisky: clean, medium en heavy. Elk van deze whisky's is gerijpt in verschillende vaten (sherry, bourbon en wijn), elk met unieke smaken. Ze worden vervolgens samengebracht om The Chita Single Grain Whisky te creëren. Hoewel je er het hele jaar door gemakkelijk van kunt genieten, komt dit zeker tot zijn recht tijdens de zomermaanden. Op de neus heeft dit honingdauwmeloen, citrustonen en honingachtige granen. Het is extreem zacht in de mond, met hints van vanillebiscuit en honingzoetheid. Een vleugje boomgaardbloesems leidt naar een middellange afdronk, met veel pit. Hibiki Suntory Whisky - Japanese Harmony The belief that their spirits embody the harmonious balance between nature and the Japanese people is central to the Suntory brand. They believe this embodiment makes their distillation processes an art form. The Hibiki range (which means 'resonance' in Japanese) was launched in 1989 to commemorate the company's 90th anniverdary. Since then it has been embraced as the paragon of The Art of Japanese Whisky - the culmination of the harmony between Japanese nature and her people.  Hibiki Japanese Harmony is a harmonious blend of several malt whiskies from the Yamazaki and Hakushu distilleries, and grain whisky from the Chita distillery. The whiskies are drawn from 5 different types of cask, including American white oak casks, Sherry casks and Mizunara oak casks. The blending process creates a full orchestra of both flavours and aromas to enjoy, and truly shows why this is a renowned premium Japanese whisky. The whisky itself has an enticing amber colour to it, which gives aromas of rose, lychees, just a hint of rosemary, just the right amount of mature woodiness and warm sandalwood. On the palate there is a honey like sweetness joined by both candied orange peel and white chocolate. It develops on the palate leading to a subtle but long finish, with hints of japanese oak (Mizunara). More from Suntory Perfect Serve As with all whiskies, drink them as you personally enjoy. We liked this served with a single large ice cube, so as to chill - but not overly dilute.
