Kniphonia Uvaria (Red Hot Poker / Torch Lily)
Kniphofia Uvaria, commonly known as Red Hot Poker, is a striking and hardy perennial that brings a charming, exotic flair to gardens. The leaves are long, narrow, grass-like, that form dense clumps. Tall spikes of tubular flowers that start as red or orange at the top and fade to yellow or cream at the base, typically appear from summer to autumn.
Kniphofia Uvaria thrives in full sun conditions. Choose a sunny spot that receives at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily. Plant in well-draining soil. While it can tolerate a range of soil types, it performs best in fertile, sandy, or loamy soils. Avoid waterlogged areas to prevent root rot. In colder regions better to provide winter protection by mulching heavily around the base of the plant. In particularly harsh winters, consider covering the plant with horticultural fleece.
