Siden jeg var en ganske lille dreng, har jeg været fascineret af italienske biler og dermed også af Ferrari. Min far måtte således gang efter gang oplæse billedteksten på side 60 i Bil-Aarbogen 1954, som jeg fik i julegave kort efter min 4-års fødselsdag, og som stadig er at finde i min bogsamling. På den side er med billede og tekst beskrevet henholdsvis Ferrari 375 America og Ferrari 250 Europa, og jeg kunne bruge timer på at betragte disse biler. Min livslange passion for Ferrari tændtes for alvor i begyndelsen af 1966. Jeg havde skrabet lommepenge nok sammen til at kunne købe det dengang nye magasin Illustreret Motorrevue, som indeholdt en artikel om Ferrari. Der var billeder og beskrivelser af Ferraris prototyper, Ferrari P3 og Dino 206 S, som skulle forsvare både fabrikkens og Italiens farver i sæson 1966. Der var imidlertid også et stort billede af en Ferrari 275 GTB, som var klar til gadebrug for velhavende kunder, og som var lunten, der tændte Ferraridrømmene i en 15-årig biltosses hjerne. Ét er dog at se bilerne i et blad, et andet er at se dem i virkeligheden, men endelig i april 1966 så jeg ”min” første Ferrari. En englænder var på besøg i Vejle, hvor jeg er født og opvokset, og han var kørende i en Ferrari 250 GTE 2+2. Denne Ferrari var to dage i træk parkeret ud for Grand Hotel, og jeg tilbragte hele min fritid, men desværre også en del af skoletiden med at betragte denne bil. Dengang gik det op for mig, min unge alder til trods, hvad det betyder, når en bil ikke blot er en bil, men et kunstværk. Stående over for denne 250 GTE 2+2 og helt indhyllet i min egen drømmeverden, besluttede jeg mig for selv en dag at blive ejer af en Ferrari. I skolen måtte jeg tage min straf for at prioritere en Ferrari 250 GTE 2+2 højere end undervisningen, men jeg var ligeglad - jeg havde set en Ferrari. Og ja, undervisningen var der jo både dagen og ugen efter, men det var Ferrarien ikke!. Mine drømme gik i opfyldelse, da jeg efter 32 års ’ventetid’ kunne sætte mig bag rattet i min egen Ferrari. Det var en Mondial Quattrovalvole, men det var nok verdens mest specielle Mondial. Den blev indrettet og godkendt som skolevogn til glæde for mange unge kørekortaspiranter i Nakskov og omegn på et tidspunkt, hvor der kun var 16 Ferrarier indregistreret på danske nummerplader. Senere kom en 328 GTS og en Fiat Dino til at fylde lidt op i garagen, og på den måde har jeg været både privilegeret og heldig med at kunne udleve mine Ferraridrømme.

Siden jeg var en lille dreng midt i 1950’erne har jeg haft et blødt hjerte for italienske biler. Den første bil i vores familie var en FIAT 500 C varevogn, og gennem årene kom der stadig nye og større biler til. Det var selvfølgelig kun FIAT, der blev købt, og i 1965 var vi på campingtur til Gardasøen i en ny FIAT 1300. Turen til Italien gav et indblik i italienske biler, som man kun så i bilmagasiner i Danmark, og den blev startskuddet til en livslang passion ikke kun for bilerne fra støvlelandet, men også for befolkningen, kulturen og livsstilen der syd for Alperne. I 1966 var der en englænder på besøg i min barndomsby Vejle. Han var kørende i en Ferrari 250 GTE 2+2, og jeg tilbragte det meste af min fritid, men desværre også en del af skoletiden med at betragte den bil. Det kostede nogle eftersidningstimer, men jeg var ligeglad! Jeg havde været i nærkontakt med det ypperste fra italiensk bilindustri. Mange år senere og efter adskillige FIAT UNO’er kunne jeg sætte mig bag rattet i min første Ferrari, en Mondial Quattro Valvole, og efter den kom en 328 GTS. Samtidig var jeg heldig at ’falde’ over en FIAT Dino 2,0, som jeg syntes ville være et godt supplement til Ferrarien. Drømmen om Italien var stadig hed, og da muligheden bød sig, erhvervede min hustru og jeg et sommerhus i Toscana ved den italienske middelhavskyst. Det blev nogle dejlige år, inden vi besluttede os for permanent at flytte til Italien for at bosætte os i et skønt lille fiskerleje, Bocca di Magra, ikke så langt fra La Spezia. Vi boede der i en årrække inden vi besluttede os for at vende hjem til Danmark igen, men vi tilbringer stadig en månedstid hvert år i vores andet hjemland. Gennem årene har jeg udgivet flere bøger i relation til Ferrari. I 2007 udkom Dino – Historien om den lille Ferrari. I 2022 var det DINO - en epoke i Ferraris Histore og i 2023 var det FERRARI – Manden & bilerne. I år er det så Fra Topolino til Tolv-syv, som er beretningen om de små biler fra FIAT, som satte så mange mennesker på hjul – ikke kun i Italien men over hele Europa.

Water-related conflicts have a long history and will continue to be a global and regional problem. Asia, with 1.5 billion of its people living in shared river basins, and with very few transboundary rivers governed by treaties, is especially prone to such conflicts. The key to mitigating transboundary water conflicts and advancing cooperation in Asia is largely in the hands of China, the upstream country for most of Asia’s major transboundary rivers. To avert the looming water crisis, apart from spending billions of dollars on domestic water transfer projects such as the South–North Water Diversion Megaproject, as well as on water conservancy and pollution abatement, China has sought to utilize the water resources of the major rivers that run across borders with neighbouring countries. On these transboundary rivers, China has built or plans to build large dams for hydroelectricity and major water diversion facilities, which has triggered anxiety and complaints from downstream countries and criticism from the international society. This book aims to systematically examine the complex reality of water contestations between China and its neighbouring countries. It provides a discussion on transboundary hydropolitics beyond the state-centric geopolitical perspective to dig into various political, institutional, legal, historical, geographical, and demographic factors that affect China’s policies and practices towards transboundary water issues. This book also provides a collection of comparative case studies on China’s water resources management on the Mekong River with other five riparian states in the Lower Mekong region: the Salween River with Myanmar, the Brahmaputra River with India, the Amur River with Russia and Mongolia, the Illy and Irtysh Rivers with Kazakhstann, and the Yalu and Tumen Rivers with North Korea. Furthermore, this book sheds light on China’s future role in global water governance.
