Bologna Portraits is the portrait of one of the most charming and least well-known Italian cities portrayed through the faces of the people who live there today. It started during the artist’s many stays in the town. Discovering Bologna little by little, Jacopo Benassi took pictures, like a sort of notebook, of the faces of the most interesting people he met during his time there. After a few months he already had a large portfolio of people which, like in a mosaic, built a bigger portrait of the whole city today. Bologna is probably the best-kept secret of the Italian cities with a great past. Large-scale tourism has never affected it, but in recent years it has been discovered by a growing group of sophisticated travellers passionate about art, culture, cinema and food. The portraits are a mix of young artists, writers, minor and great musicians, leading businessmen, famous bar tenders, tailors, professors at the local university (the oldest in the Western world), personalities and international artists such as Nino Migliori and Luigi Ontani. All of them born or living in Bologna. The whole book is a study of real faces that are able to be meaningful and to tell a story, and recall a tradition like the study of faces by Pier Paolo Pasolini in some of his films, or Andy Warhol’s Screen Tests. But at the same time, they recall a masterpiece like Un Paese, the book produced by Paul Strand and Cesare Zavattini. The book includes a text by art critic Antonio Grulli.

I Et forår i florentinsk kunst af kunsthistorikeren Mogens Nykjær præsenteres læseren for en kunstnergruppe, i Macchiaioli, der virkede i den sidste halvdel af 1800-tallet. Deres værker betragtes i dag som det væsentligste italienske bidrag til 1800-tallets europæiske kunst. Før den tid bestod den italienske halvø af en række mindre nationer, men i løbet af 1800-tallet blev en helt ny nation født. Det var en gammel drøm om at skabe en samlet nation fra Alperne til Sicilien, som lykkedes formelt i 1870. Det Italien vi kender i dag var en realitet og man kalder denne proces il Risorgimento. Italiensk kunst i 1800-tallet er dybt præget af dette nye fædrelands tilblivelse og mange unge kunstnere deltog i de italienske uafhængighedskrige, og nogle satte livet til. Blandt disse kunstnere var i Macchiaioli. En gruppe på en lille snes personer samledes midt i 1850’erne i Caffè Michelangiolo i Firenze. De var optaget af il Risorgimentos ideer samt af at skabe en ny kunst, en ars nova, i en ny nation. En politisk revolution og en kunstnerisk. Gammel akademisk lærdom blev kastet bort, og i renæssancens by Firenze blev der skabt en ny renæssance, en genfødsel af italiensk kunst. Disse kunstnere og deres banebrydende kunst har længe stået i skygge af de franske impressionister, og uden for Italien er kendskabet til de endnu ringe. I Macchiaioli bebuder det tyvende århundredes modernisme, ligesom deres franske kolleger gør. Men de gør det på deres helt egen måde. Inspiration henter de i høj grad i den tidlige florentinske renæssance, hos Giotto, Ghirlandaio og Piero della Francesca. Denne bog bidrager til at udbrede kendskabet og kærligheden til disse florentinske kunstnere og er en righoldig billedsamling med over 150 værker med forbindende og forklarende tekster. Cykelsporten er en sport med et mytisk skær over sig. De lange ridt, de store togter og de dramatiske væddeløb har skabt fundamentet til mange fortællinger. Kenneth Møller Kristensen har i denne bog udvalgt 50 af de mest utrolige historier fra den ædle sport. Fakta er tjekket, og kilder er undersøgt. Men cykelsporten er også kendt for mange røverhistorier. Måske er et par af historierne blevet bedre med årene. Tiden har under alle omstændigheder ikke gjort dem dårligere. Det fortælles i hvert fald, at han stoppede på Caffè Piccardo på Piazza Dante i kystbyen Imperia. Løbets radiorapporter skreg, at Coppi førte med ti minutter. Ved den lille hyggeligt café valgte han derfor pludseligt at stoppe og bestille en espresso. Som det hører sig til i Italien, indtog han den stående i baren, betalte og kørte videre. Målet i Sanremo nåede han 14 minutter før Lucien Teisseire. Det endte med, at Coppi kørte alene i 147 kilometer! Hans sejrsmargin er den største nogensinde, når man ser bort fra Eugéne Christophes triumf i den ekstreme 1910-udgave af løbet. Om forfatteren Kenneth Møller Kristensen har i mere end 20 år været tæt på cykelsporten. Han har været tilknyttet Danmarks Cykle Union i tolv år som redaktør, pressechef og kommunikationsmedarbejder og blandt andet været pressechef for Post Danmark Rundt, bane-VM i 2010 og landevejs-VM 2011. Efterfølgende har han været pressechef for det københavnske 6-dagesløb, og alle andre store banestævnet i Ballerup Super Arena. Desuden har han været ekspertkommentator på blandt andet Viasat, og skrevet om cykelløb for en lang række medier. Kenneth ejer desuden Danmarks ældste cykelwebsite, CyclingWorld.dk. Dette er hans sjette cykelbog.
