Franz Rosenzweig’s Rational Subjective System - Alin V. Bontas - Bog - Peter Lang Publishing Inc - Plusbog.dk

Franz Rosenzweig’s The Star of Redemption is best understood as a rational subjective system, and as such, as the redemptive turning point in philosophy and theology in general. In asserting Rosenzweig’s essential commitment to a «new» systematic conception of thinking as the most basic, deepest, and comprehensive intellectual procedure, Franz Rosenzweig’s Rational Subjective System sheds light on the extensive method of the Star and shows it to be rooted in a fundamental rethinking of the methodological and logical-metaphysical resources of Kant, most especially of the transcendent metaphysics of the psychological, cosmological, and theological substances (i.e., the «threefold nothing», or entia rationis ). The true radicality and originality of Rosenzweig, Bontas claims, is the exposition of the «rational subjective» approach to substance and knowledge on the «logical form» of the hypothetical thought (i.e., the modal relation of logical consequence between original and non-natural ground and phenomenal consequence, that positively establishes the wholly final and non-ideal destinations of redemption), which valorizes the alliance between pure reason and revelation disrupted by the Kantian epistemology. The title, The Star of Redemption, indicates exactly this long rational and not exclusively mundane «new systematic principle» of coherent and reliable knowledge, which is ultimately shown to be «true» and «right» from a «self-examining» subjective perspective and thereby justified.

Antifragility of Islamic Finance - Umar Rafi - Bog - Peter Lang Publishing Inc - Plusbog.dk

Antifragility of Islamic Finance: The Risk-Sharing Alternative explains how risk-sharing, as defined under Islamic finance, makes financial systems antifragile. It highlights the benefits of 100% equity-based finance over debt-based finance. The recent financial crisis has given rise to discussions on a new approach to risk management called antifragility. This concept specifies conditions under which systems become resilient to shocks caused by Black Swans—highly unpredictable outlier events that have a major negative (or positive) consequence when they occur, with their occurrence only explained retrospectively. Per this concept, the long-term survivability of any system centers exclusively on its antifragile nature, that is, its ability to absorb and even benefit from Black Swan–type shocks. This book aims to investigate risk-sharing Islamic finance as an antifragile system. As a by-product of the Great Recession, the problems of debt-based financial systems are starting to be highlighted by industry and by academia. The antifragile solution for avoiding future financial crises is primarily centered on moving the existing financial system towards more equity and less debt, thereby introducing skin-in-the-game into financial transactions. This book introduces a model of a 100% equity-based financial system, centered on risk sharing , as a possible alternative to the contemporary debt-based, conventional financial system, which is based on risk transfer and on risk shifting . In essence, this book attempts to provide a practical model for an antifragile financial system by evaluating the characteristics of Islamic finance under the criteria of antifragility.

Project Management Planning - Muhamed Abdomerovic - Bog - Peter Lang Publishing Inc - Plusbog.dk

Project Management Planning - Muhamed Abdomerovic - Bog - Peter Lang Publishing Inc - Plusbog.dk

Project Management Planning explores the science and art of handling planned responsibility and unexpected conditions. The processes of planning contents (initiating, planning, executing, controlling, closing) and the attributes of planning contents (scope, time, resources, cost, quality, risk, benefit, others) are generally common. For that reason, comprehensive project management planning applies across all types of projects and all kinds of planning situations, including, for example, the Agile sequence of shortterm investments or in Critical Chain Buffer management. Evidence shows two massive gaps in project management planning across the field, which this book hopes to address. The first gap is between current project management planning and its potential as a practical discipline. The second gap is between project management system knowledge and its potential as an applied research discipline. This book first explains how a project management plan develops from project management contents, before using the same tools to explain how project management system logic develops from project management system contents. Finally, it shows how project management system contents and its logic improve project management contents. By understanding how a project management plan develops into a project management systems logic, we can implement strong plans across programs, businesses and corporations, organizations, and any entity for which managing plans is an integral part.

From Grading to Classification - Guoqing Xu - Bog - Peter Lang Publishing Inc - Plusbog.dk

The tremendous economic and social changes over the past 40 years of reform and opening-up have provided a seedbed for the historic achievements in the development of vocational education in China. The development of vocational education over the past 40 years can be divided into three phases: the restoration and development phase of secondary vocational education in the 1980s, the phase of stability and consolidation in the 1990s, and the phase of strengthening the system and comprehensively deepening foundations since the 21st century. From starting everything from scratch in the 1980s to the intense hard work in the 1990s, and then to the scientific development in the 21st century, vocational education has come through a crucial historical period. It has developed more systemically and deeply than any other period in history. At present, China’s vocational education has entered a new era. The main challenges faced by vocational education in the new era include: to further consolidate the status of vocational education and accomplish each connection smoothly; to establish a national institutional platform for school-enterprise cooperation; to set up a scientific assessment system in order to analyze labor demand for industrial development; to build national professional teaching standards for vocational education; to establish a standardized and systematic training system for vocational education teachers; and to enhance top-level design and advance the implementation of a modern apprenticeship system.

The Coup D’etat of the New Orleans Public Schools - Raynard Sanders - Bog - Peter Lang Publishing Inc - Plusbog.dk

The Coup D’état of the New Orleans Public Schools explores and criticizes the contemporary educational reforms of the New Orleans public school system. The New Orleans education reforms implemented after Hurricane Katrina, using the corporate model approach, have been an academic failure with charter operators making millions of dollars while reestablishing a segregated school system based on race and class—all in the name of school reform. Despite the claims of unprecedented academic success the educational reforms have been a dismal failure academically and operationally, and have resurrected equity and access issues. Equally as disturbing the reforms firmly have re-established a tiered public school system that segregates students by race and class. The Coup D’état of the New Orleans Public Schools puts the corporate education reform movement in its proper context, which is to create a new twenty-first century model for turning around urban public school districts in the United States. This book reveals what really happened pre- and post-Hurricane Katrina that contributed to the state takeover of public schools in New Orleans. This story is told through the eyes of parents, students, activists, political leaders, and Orleans Parish School Board members and employees who have been largely ignored. It also includes an analysis of the author’s personal experience of almost forty years in New Orleans public schools as a teacher, principal, and college professor.

Family Relations in the Gospel of Mark - Narry F. Santos - Bog - Peter Lang Publishing Inc - Plusbog.dk

Family Relations in the Gospel of Mark - Narry F. Santos - Bog - Peter Lang Publishing Inc - Plusbog.dk

The social values of honor and shame, which have attracted much research from cultural anthropology and New Testament studies for the past five decades, is the main focus of the book. This book proposes the need to combine major contributions of narrative, rhetorical, and cultural anthropological approaches to trace the development of the twofold honor-shame concept throughout the Marcan narrative—with special attention to family relations. Though adequate social-scientific and socio-rhetorical studies in Mark’s Gospel (even in relation to honor and shame) have been conducted, there are still few scholarly monographs that trace the honor-shame motifs from the start to the end of the narrative through the use of helpful insights from literary methods and heuristic models (e.g., challenge-riposte; patron–client relation). Thus, this book seeks to undertake this kind of research. It argues further that Mark intends to reverse the content of the honor-shame value system of his audience by means of narrative reversal and family relativization. Such dramatic redefinition basically turns this value system upside-down, especially in relation to the natural family and the new fictive family of Jesus. Finally, the book unpacks how Mark persuades his readers to reverse their value system—what they consider as shameful must now be valued as honorable, and what they view as honorable must now be seen as dishonorable. NT scholars, seminary professors, and graduate students will benefit from reading this book, which offers a fresh integrated honor–shame approach in studying Mark’s Gospel from start to finish.
