This book delineates a range of linguistic features that characterise the reading texts used at the B2 (Independent User) and C1 (Proficient User) levels of the Greek State Certificate of English Language Proficiency exams in order to help define text difficulty per level of competence. In addition, it examines whether specific reader variables influence test takers’ perceptions of reading comprehension difficulty. The end product is a Text Classification Profile per level of competence and a formula for automatically estimating text difficulty and assigning levels to texts consistently and reliably in accordance with the purposes of the exam and its candidature-specific characteristics.

Politicamente corretto, linguaggio inclusivo, "lingua facile", sessismo linguistico, hate speech : nella maggior parte dei casi di discriminazione un ruolo determinante spetta (anche) al linguaggio. Pur non limitandosi a fatti linguistici, la discriminazione viene spesso trasmessa attraverso la lingua, per mezzo di espressioni volutamente spregiative, ma anche nascosta in usi idiomatici apparentemente innocui. It is based on the results of the research project “Neologismes per a l’actualització del diccionari normatiu” (NADIC) (studying neologisms to update the standard Catalan dictionary), financed by Institut d’Estudis Catalans, and carried out by the Network of Catalan Language Neology Observatories between 2015 and 2017. The chapters are organised into four main sections, dealing with general aspects of neology with the inclusion into a dictionary of certain types of neologisms as well as specific case studies, and questions on language variation since lexicography plays a central role in the construction of the standard language.

Nominal versus Clausal Complexity in Spoken and Written English - Uta Katharina Elisabeth Schaepers - Bog - Peter Lang AG - Plusbog.dk

Halliday has claimed that neither spoken nor written language is more complex than the other per se, but that the two mediums show different degrees of complexity on different levels. He argues that written language uses more lexical items within the clause whereas spoken language uses more clauses within the clause complex. Thus, written language should use more complex noun phrases and spoken language should use more complex clause complexes. The aim of the study was to conduct a corpus-based study to analyse spoken and written language samples with regard to differences in complexity on the level of noun phrases and clause complexes. With the help of this study it was possible to refute Halliday’s thesis as the data show that both noun phrases and clause complexes are more complex in the language samples under scrutiny.

Al centro di questo studio ci sono la comunità italica di Banzi, la colonia greca di Taranto ed i loro rispettivi statuti, incisi su bronzo nella prima metà del I secolo a. C. Si tratta dei più antichi statuti locali dell’Italia antica a noi pervenuti. Essi contengono disposizioni normative relative alla sfera amministrativa e giudiziaria dei due centri. Le due leges sono note da tempo, ma in questo volume vengono per la prima volta presentate, tradotte e commentate insieme e vengono studiate nello specifico contesto storico-politico delle due comunità. L’indagine ha tenuto conto anche di altri testi epigrafici di recente scoperta, che hanno migliorato la comprensione di vari aspetti dei due statuti e in alcuni casi hanno condotto ad interpretazioni diverse da quelle formulate sinora. The Italian community of Banzi and the Greek colony of Tarentum, with their respective charters engraved on bronze in the first half of the 1 st century BC, are the main subjects of this study. These local charters are the oldest of this kind discovered in Italy to date. They contain legal provisions relating to the administrative and judicial field of the two centres. The two leges have long been known about but, in this book, they are presented for the first time together, translated, annotated and analysed with regard to the specific historical and political context of the two communities. Moreover the research takes into account other recently discovered epigraphic evidence, which has improved the understanding of many aspects of the two charters and in some cases has led to different interpretations from those made to date. The book is written in Italian.

Um den Dialog auch über Sprachgrenzen hinweg anzuregen, sind alle Beiträge mit je einem italienischen, deutschen und englischsprachigen Abstract versehen. Der deskriptive Anspruch dieses Sammelwerks besteht darin, verschiedene Teilaspekte des Phänomens einer multikulturellen Gesellschaft in Südtirol aufzuzeigen. Der konstruktive Anspruch dieses Werks fußt auf einem übergeordneten Ziel: dem Schaffen von Momenten der Begegnung, des intersubjektiven und interdisziplinären Dialogs und erfordert die theoretische Fundierung von praktischen Formen dialogischer Problemanalyse und -bewältigung. Con l’idea di promuovere il dialogo interdisciplinare come anche quello scientifico interculturale neolaureati di diverse facoltà si sono dati da fare e trattano nelle loro opere questioni internazionali ossia temi regionali. Per promuovere il dialogo anche oltre le barriere linguistiche i contributi si presentano con abstract in lingua inglese, tedesca e italiana. La pretesa descrittiva di questa raccolta di temi sta nel esplicare diversi aspetti del fenomeno di una società multiculturale in Alto Adige. La pretesa costruttiva di questa opera si basa su di un fine superiore: il creare di momenti d’incontro, di un dialogo intersoggettivo e interdisciplinare e richiede una base teorica di forme pratiche di analisi e soluzione dialogica di problemi. In an aim to promote an interdisciplinary and intercultural scientific dialog young graduates of diverse disciplines have tackled the task of intensive investigation into «cultures in dialogue» as it relates to issues of international as well as regional relevance. In an attempt to motivate dialogue across language barriers all contributions provide abstracts in the three languages: German, Italian and English. The descriptive part of the collected edition provides an overview of diverse aspects of the phenomenon of a multicultural society in South Tyrol. The constructive aspect of the volume pursues the following goal: it creates moments of encounter, of intersubjective as well as interdisciplinary dialogue and lays the basis for a theoretical foundation of practical forms of dialogic problem analysis and problem solving.
