Topiary Snail (Ligustrum Jonandrum) - 70 cm / 2.3 ft

Topiary Snail (Ligustrum Jonandrum) - 70 cm / 2.3 ft

This stunning topiary is made from clipped Ligustrum Jonandrum. The Privet, also known as the Ligustrum, starts its tale from Asia, eventually extending into Australia and Europe. The actual plant is used as a street tree in Europe and has an interesting history in that it became very popular as a street ornament in Britain during WWII when the government started to requisition post-1850 iron gates and railings to be turned into ammunition for the war effort. The plant itself is semi-evergreen and is a very bushy shrub although this variant grows into a lovely lollipop shape hence its other name, ‘Lollipop Privet’. It produces abundant creamy white flowers with a rather unusual scent in late summer and small, black berries in autumn. It needs regular watering three times a week. The Hardiness rating is H6, meaning that it is perfect for the UK climate. Privet grows rapidly and needs clipping every two to three weeks in the summer months. Growth slows down and stops in September, after which the shrub will retain its shape until next spring. All parts of the plant are toxic and may cause severe discomfort if eaten. The soil needs to be well drained and a full sun or partial shade is recommended. Ligustrum Jonandrum (Delavay Privet) - Half Standard Ball - 60 - 70 (cm)

Ligustrum Jonandrum (Delavay Privet) - Half Standard Ball - 60 - 70 (cm)

Growth slows down and stops in September, after which the shrub will retain its shape until next spring .All parts of the plant are toxic and may cause severe discomfort if eaten. Ligustrum Jonandrum (Delavay Privet) - Half Standard Ball - 70 - 80 (cm)

Ligustrum Jonandrum (Delavay Privet) - Half Standard Ball - 70 - 80 (cm)

Ilex Crenata Kinme (Tuscan Style) - 100-120 cm / 3.3-3.9 ft

An affordable variety of Tuscan Bonsai, with a fantastic appearance that is easy to maintain. Tuscan Cloud Bonsai Trees are a popular choice because of their dense foliage and their ability to change colour based on exposure to the sun. Over time, leaves at the top of its bundles become golden-yellow, where as those lower down retain their dark green colour because of the shade they receive. Tuscan Cloud Bonsai Trees also produce very small flowers and berries during the summer. Specially sculpted over many years to create elegant “statement pieces” for your garden, bonsai plants are always a favourite with visitors thanks to their unusual shape and the dedication involved in growing them. Traditionally described as “unique”, this is no longer entirely true – thanks to patient and persistent growers, like those at GardenPlantsOnline, it is now possible to produce bonsai plants with similar shapes if they are seeded at the same time and grown under the same conditions. This consistency of shape gives you the chance to create beautifully symmetrical garden designs, such as lining a pathway with a line of matching bonsai trees, or bookending both sides of a doorway or arch. Eriobotrya Japonica (Loquat Tree) – Standard - 10 - 12 (cm)

Eriobotrya Japonica (Loquat Tree) – Standard - 10 - 12 (cm)

The Loquat is originally from Ancient China and was later on introduced to Japan around a similar time period. It has been cultivated there for about 1,000 years. It has since been naturalised in many countries all over the world. The first European contact with the species potentially was in 16th century Portugal at the height of Japanese-Portuguese contact. The plant itself is an evergreen tree that produces an abundance of orange and yellow fruit during the spring time. Throughout the rest of the year, it mainly blossoms white flowers. The hardiness rating is H4 making it very good for most of the UK climate. Only shelter in extreme cold snaps. Make sure it has full natural sunlight whenever possible. Stick to the instructions within pruning group 1 and may potentially need restrictive pruning under glass. It has the potential for pests but is generally disease free.
