Terry O'Neill's Rock 'n' Roll Album - Terry O'neill - Bog - ACC Art Books - Plusbog.dk

"Terry was everywhere in the ''60s - he knew everything and everyone that was happening" - Keith Richards Terry O''Neill (1938-2019) was one of the world''s most celebrated and collected photographers. No one captured the front line of fame so broadly - and for so long. Terry O''Neill''s Rock ‘n’ Roll Album contains some of the most famous and powerful music photographs of all time. At the same time, the book includes many intimate personal photos taken ''behind the scenes'' and at private functions. Terry O''Neill photographed the giants of the music world - both on and off-stage. For more than fifty years he captured those on the front line of fame in public and in private. David Bowie, Elton John, Led Zeppelin, Amy Winehouse, Dean Martin, The Who, Janis Joplin, AC/DC, Eric Clapton, Sammy Davis Jnr., The Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen, Chuck Berry and The Beatles - to name only a few. O''Neill spent more than 30 years photographing Frank Sinatra as his personal photographer, with unprecedented access to the star. He took some of the earliest known photographs of The Beatles, and then forged a lifetime relationship with members of the band that allowed him to photograph their weddings and other private moments. It is this contrast between public and private that makes Terry O''Neill''s Rock ‘n’ Roll Album such a powerful document. Without a doubt, Terry O''Neill''s work comprises a vital chronicle of rock ''n'' roll history. To any fan of music or photography, this book will be a must-buy. "Trusted by the stars to make them look good, O''Neill has captured the icons of music for over half a century... Rock Landscapes - The Pulham Legacy - Claude Hitching - Bog - ACC Art Books - Plusbog.dk

"What a super book! Great photos, and such interesting facts - it all makes a fascinating read." Christine Walkden, BBC-TV and Radio 4 Gardening Expert "This is a wonderful book, tracing the history of the family firm and the marvellous structures they created, in great detail. There are detailed accounts of 40 of the firm''s most prestigious structures, stunningly photographed by professional garden photographer Jennifer Lilly. There is even a detailed chronological gazetteer of all the known Pulhamite sites. Definitely a must for your Christmas present list and garden history bookshelf." Hazelle Jackson , Heritage Consultant London Landscapes Autumn/Winter 2012 "It is excellent... A brilliant piece of work - I thoroughly recommend it." Peter Seabrook , Gardening Writer and Broadcaster Amateur Gardening "The result of many years'' patient research, pulling together fascinating information on the Pulhams'' work, which extended from grand gardens such as Sandringham and Waddesdon to modest suburban villas." The Times "A Charming Labour of Love, this offers everything you could wish to know about Pulhamite - and probably much more... The photographs are superb, the research exhaustive and the gazetteer makes it invaluable for the study, restoration and maintenance of Pulhamite features in 19th to early 20th-century gardens." BBC Gardens Illustrated This book tells the story of James Pulham & Son, the eminent family of Victorian and Edwardian landscape artists who specialised in the construction of picturesque rock gardens, ferneries, follies and grottoes. The book covers more than four generations of the family business that was also responsible for the manufacture of extremely high-quality terracotta garden ornaments including fountains, vases, sundials and bulastrading. The rock gardens, for which the firm are mainly remembered today, were built with ''artifical'' rocks - formed from heaps of old bricks and rubble, coated with cement, and sculpted to simulate the colour and texture of natural stone. The author''s interest in James Pulham & Son stems from the fact that no fewer than five of his ancestors worked for the company as ''rock builders''. Features many incredibly famous locations, including Buckingham Palace, Sandringham, Heatherden Hall, Waddesdon Manor, Battersea Park, Friar Park and RHS Garden Wisley.

Bruce Springsteen: Live in the Heartland - Janet Macoska - Bog - ACC Art Books - Plusbog.dk

"Bruce Springsteen in All His Rock Star Glory." —Janet Macoska, The Daily Beast "Two careers were born on that cold night in 1974. Macoska would blossom into one of the most notable rock ''n'' roll photographers of the last 50 years. And Springsteen was on his way to becoming The Boss." —Jay Crawford and Meg Hambach, wkyc3 "...Live In The Heartland covers almost five decades of touring from The Boss, and also includes set-lists and corresponding editorial content. The majority of the photos are previously unseen." —Classic Rock Magazine "There’s only one boss of rock ‘n’ roll." —Tria Wen, Reader''s Digest "... an energetic and moving visual tour that records the romance between The Boss and the Cleveland stages." —GQ Mexico Five decades of blue-jeans, down-to-earth rock ‘n’ roll. Five decades of poetic, authentic performances, political commentary, global tours and even a Broadway show. Bruce Springsteen hasn’t just left an impact on the surface of modern music, he helped shape its foundations. From the early beginnings in 1974 to the seminal Born in the USA – one of the best-selling albums of all time – to the 2016 River Tour, the highest grossing tour of the year, Springsteen has a truly timeless appeal, captured here by lauded rock photographer, Janet Macoska. Macoska charts Springsteen through the ages. Through her lens we witness his enduring energy on the stage, from 1974 to 2016. Here is Springsteen at his finest: a down-to-earth superstar, whose powerful performances stand the test of time. "Bruce would rip his heart out and give it to his audience. He put everything into his performance. He was all over the stage, and the whole rest of the band was in lockstep, complimenting that energy. It was going out to the audience in bundles. We were sending it back , too, and that’s really electric. That energy, those visuals? Photographers love that. It’s perfect to have something like that to photograph." - Janet Macoska

Sukita - Sukita - Bog - ACC Art Books - Plusbog.dk

"It''s very hard for me to accept that Sukita-san has been snapping away at me since 1972, but that really is the case. I suspect that it''s because whenever he''s asked me to do a session, I conjure up in my mind''s eye the sweet, creative and big-hearted man who has always made these potentially tedious affairs so relaxed and painless. May he click into eternity." - David Bowie For Sukita, the creative mastermind behind the iconic cover for David Bowie''s album ''Heroes'', photography is an expression of a ''fundamental secret'' shared between artists: a spiritual communication that transcends the minutiae of language. Born and raised in Kyushu, Japan, Sukita''s reverence of American and Western counter-culture lured him to New York and London. He immersed himself in the western music scene which he loved, while his relaxed photo sessions endeared him to many celebrity figures, including David Bowie and Iggy Pop (with both of whom Sukita had a 40-year long professional relationship), Marc Bolan, and Japanese musician Hotei, best known for his work on the Kill Bill soundtrack. His work spans the early US and UK seventies rock scene, the London punk-rock era to the present crop of emerging Japanese rock artists. This photo book is the first time the photographer has collaborated on a major retrospective of his career and includes some of his early documentary work and his rarely-seen travel and street photography. It introduces the artist through two essays that explore his place within the wider context of both Western and Japanese photography, presented alongside the many iconic shots of both Western and Japanese artists that earned him his eternal reputation.

Nirvana - Kirk Weddle - Bog - ACC Art Books - Plusbog.dk

Nirvana - Kirk Weddle - Bog - ACC Art Books - Plusbog.dk

When lists are made and articles are written about rock and roll’s greatest album covers – there’s a consistent name at the top: Nevermind by Nirvana; Nirvana’s breakthrough 1991 record that cemented the band’s legacy into legend. The image of the baby floating towards a dollar bill on a fish-hook is instantly recognisable as iconic. Now – for the first time in book form – the photographer behind the lens shares his memories from that day, along with his nearly 140 outtakes, including promo shots of the band. Kirk Weddle, an up-and-coming photographer specialising in “submerged humans,” was called by the album’s art director Robert Fisher with the brief. Weddle went to work and over the course of a few days produced not only the album’s iconic cover, but also a series of images of the band that were not used at the time. They are all reproduced in the book. The stories from Weddle of the days shooting – first a series of babies, then a series of the band - paint a picture of a band at the brink of superstardom. Tired from touring, they arrived ‘surprised'' to discover that they, too, would have to dive into the pool. “It was a cold, overcast day in Los Angeles. It wasn’t the ideal swimming situation” remembers Weddle. Nirvana: Never Mind the Photos will be the first time the photographs will be published as a whole. The book showcases these extraordinary shots, examining just how difficult photographing an underwater baby turned out to be, nevertheless photographing an underwater band. These images of Kurt Cobain, Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic capture the band as they dive in and submerge themselves into the rock icon stratosphere. With contributions, essays and quotes throughout – including from Steven Walker, owner of Modern Rocks Gallery (USA), journalist Steve Fairclough and album art director Robert Fisher, coupled with Weddle’s own commentary – this one-of-a-kind book is an insightful celebration of one of the world’s most iconic images.

Iggy & the Stooges - Ed Caraeff - Bog - ACC Art Books - Plusbog.dk

"Ed''s photos take us behind the scenes and in the middle of the action. I always felt like I was being transported to the location of the shot, and was experiencing it all first hand. The Stooges Funhouse sessions are my favorite rock photos of all time. I wanted to be those guys. Those images have stayed with me my entire life and continue to inspire me to this day !!!!!" - John Varvatos In May 1970, The Stooges were in the middle of recording their celebrated album, Fun House at Elektra Records Recording Studio in Los Angeles. That same month, they appeared at the Whisky a Go-Go on Sunset Boulevard for two incredible nights. Ed Caraeff, a new rock photographer who had burst onto the scene three years prior with his now-iconic image of Jimi Hendrix burning his guitar onstage at Monterey, happened to be in that crowd, and took a plethora of wonderful pictures. Only a few stills from that phenomenal gig were ever reproduced. Most famously, one was used on the cover of Fun House. The rest were filed away. Until now.Ed Caraeff''s coverage of this monumental moment is reprinted here for the first time in book form. He not only captures the energy, madness and raw power of Iggy Pop''s performance, but also the preceding minutes before the band stepped onto stage and made history. Along with images and contact sheets, original interviews shed new light on that unforgettable night. Interviewed by pop-culture historian Jennifer Otter Bickerdike, names include Jac Holzman, Head of Elektra Records during the recording of Fun House; Mikael Maglieri, son of Mario Maglieri, owner of the Whisky a Go-Go when The Stooges played in 1970; Danny Fields, a DJ/publicist credited for signing MC5 and The Stooges; and Jeff Gold, music historian and noted Iggy Pop biographer. A tribute to the band that rocked the world, Iggy & The Stooges: One Night at the Whisky, 1970 will revolutionise your view of music.

Dream Lovers: John and Yoko in NYC - Brian Hamill - Bog - ACC Art Books - Plusbog.dk

"These photos are stunning, bittersweet visions of a past shared by all of us. " - Tom Hanks. "Brian Hamill is best known as a still photographer and a photojournalist. But I’ve always regarded him - first and foremost - as a master portraitist. And this book bears that out - capturing as it does, the many-faceted phenomenon that was John and Yoko - artists, lovers, cultural comrades and - most elusively - business partners. Behind his camera, Hamill is something of a phenomenon himself." - Richard Price John Lennon''s life, death and music shaped the world. His reputation as a philanthropist, political activist and pacifist influenced millions worldwide. If Elvis was King, Lennon was his rightful successor - and fittingly, several images in this collection of both classic and unseen photos show him wearing a diamond-studded ''Elvis'' pin over his heart, in homage to his forefather on the throne of Rock ''n'' Roll. John Lennon is seen here in several sessions in New York, performing on stage, relaxed at home and walking on the street with Yoko Ono. Renowned celebrity photojournalist Brian Hamill delivers his own insider view of this Beatles icon, through intense, intimate photographic portraits and insightful text. Whether Lennon is dominating the stage, posing on the roof of the Dakota building, or relaxing with Yoko Ono, Hamill''s photography takes this quasi-mythical figure from the world of Rock ''n'' Roll and shows him as the man he really was. "Brian looked at the John Lennon who had become an icon and saw instead a familiar face. He saw a working-class hero like those that built the City of New York. And so when John Lennon came to live in New York, Brian captured him as a New Yorker, in the joyous images that you will find in this book." - Pete Hamill "Lennon, one of the most famous men in human history, wanted to live as one among many. Of course, he hit it off with Hamill. The guy that flew so high needed some oxygen. Hamill is fresh air. His folio of Lennon images shows Lennon focused, present, but edgy, never relaxed." - Alec Baldwin

Prodigies, revolutionaries, defiers of the patriarchy; drunks, rebels and impassioned immigrants; queer pioneers, paint-spattered punks and proto-feminists: there have always been artists in London. Some were celebrated in their lifetime, others were out-of-step with the spirit of their age: too radical, too subversive, too modest, too female, too foreign. Art London is more than a guidebook. It will accompany you on a journey through this great city, telling stories, uncovering histories, sharing insights into those who have made, collected and influenced art past and present. Moving neighbourhood by neighbourhood, Art London travels the streets with you, revealing art in museums, galleries and beyond, from palace to pub to studio. Anish Kapoor, Grayson Perry, Mona Hatoum, John Akomfra, Rasheed Araeen, Sunil Gupta, Tracey Emin and Yinka Shonibare were among the artists who agreed to have their portraits taken for this book, while at work in their studios. Alex Schneiderman''s exclusive photographs reveal the human element behind contemporary art, while pictures of streetside galleries place London''s art scene within an ever-expanding cosmopolitan world. Fascinating, entertaining, full of anecdote and insights, Art London reflects the city itself: energetic, diverse, resilient, occasionally outrageous, and never short of fresh ideas. "Terry was everywhere in the 60s - he knew everything and everyone that was happening" Keith Richards "Terry O''Neill rates rightly as one of the best photographers in the world. He captures something special" Sir Michael Caine "When it comes to photographic legends there can be few more prolific or revered than Terry O''Neill, the man who shot the greats." VOGUE "This sumptuous collection of portraits, taken over six decades, represents the best of his memorable career and should grace every coffee table in the land" The Daily Mail "I''ve been repeatedly asked to write my autobiography - I have seen an awful lot of famous people at their best and worst - but I''m not interested in making money trading their secrets or mine. I want my pictures to tell a story not sell a story." Terry O''Neill Terry O''Neill is one of the world''s most celebrated and collected photographers. No one has captured the frontline of fame so broadly - and for so long. For more than 50 years, he has photographed rock stars and presidents, royals and movie stars, at work, at play, in private. He pioneered backstage reportage photography with the likes of Frank Sinatra, David Bowie, Sir Elton John and Chuck Berry and his work comprises a vital chronicle of rock and roll history. Now, for the first time, an exhaustive cataloging of his archive conducted over the last three years has revisited more than 2 million negatives and has unearthed unseen images that escaped the eye over a career spanning 53 years. Similarly, his use of 35mm cameras on film sets and the early pop music shows of the 60s opened up a new visual art form using photojournalism, to revolutionise formal portraiture. His work captured the iconic, candid, and unguarded moments of the famous and the notorious - from Ava Gardner to Amy Winehouse, from Churchill to Nelson Mandela, from the earliest photographs of young emerging bands such as the Beatles and the Rolling Stones to her Majesty the Queen at Buckingham Palace. O'' Neill spent more than 30 years photographing Frank Sinatra, amassing a unique archive of more than 3,000 Sinatra negatives. Add to that the magazine covers, album sleeves, film poster and fashion shoots of 1,000 stars, and Terry O''Neill - comprises the most compelling and epic catalog of the age of celebrity. Terry O''Neill has worked for the most prestigious magazines in the world including Time, Newsweek, Stern, Bunte, Figaro, The Sunday Times, Vanity Fair, People, Parade, Vogue and many others. And his award launched to showcase the work of young emerging photographers is now one of the most highly prized global competitions in art. The Royal Society of Arts has honored him with the rare Centenary Medal for his lifetime achievement. Only a dozen have ever been awarded in recognition of ''outstanding contributions to the art and science of photography.''

"Even the book''s cover sparkles with gold, a brilliant visual cue -- at least for those of us of a certain age -- of what''s in store: A traipse through that time in our lives when the sparkly flash of pop-cultural figures served as guides to millions of youngsters desperate to connect to a dim constellation we knew to be out there but couldn''t see alone." — East Hampton Star What The Band Wore by Alice Harris is an unprecedented collection of photographs that illustrates four decades of pop, rock, soul, disco, funk, punk, reggae, heavy metal, and hip hop fashion. "This historically important tome is a stunner from the off, the resplendent glittery hardback exterior merely teasing at the delights within... ''The End Is Near'' is an indispensable collection of images from a unique rock ''n'' roll moment, beautifully presented." - Phil Singleton. God Save the Sex Pistols. Christmas Day 1977, a day to be spent with family and loved ones, unless of course you''d decided to spend it with The Sex Pistols. The punk band, at the centre of a tabloid frenzy and banned from just about every venue in the country, had booked themselves into a small club in Huddersfield to perform a benefit in support of striking West Yorkshire fire fighters. That evening, the band took to the stage to perform what would become their final UK gig. There to capture the chaos was photographer Kevin Cummins. No stranger to The Sex Pistols, he''d been there at that gig at Manchester''s Lesser Free Trade Hall just 18 months previously. Kevin incurred the fury of his own family to forgo Christmas in order to travel across The Pennines to document the event. Every frame Kevin shot is here, for the first time, in this book of more than 150 colour and black and white photographs, each beautifully capturing Johnny Rotten, Sid Vicious, Steve Jones, and Paul Cook as they play together for the last time in their home country. Just weeks later The Pistols would break up and a year later, Sid would be dead. "You''ve had the Queen''s speech. Now you''re going to get the Sex Pistols at Christmas. Enjoy." - Johnny Rotten

"Talking about a creative session is like talking about a boxing match. It happened because there was a little bit of magic in the room that night. I''ll say it myself, it''s a fucking great cover." Brian Duffy Brian Duffy defined the image of the 1960s, and was as famous as the stars he photographed. Together with David Bailey and Terence Donovan, he is recognised as one of the innovators of "documentary" fashion photography, a style which revolutionised fashion imagery and furthermore the fashion industry. Duffy''s most famous photograph dates from the 1970s and is the iconic and revolutionary cover of David Bowie''s album Aladdin Sane , a shot that became the defining look of Bowie''s long career, and has been referred to as the Mona Lisa of pop. The photographer and the rock star collaborated on four other projects: Ziggy Stardust , The Man Who Fell to Earth , Scary Monsters (and Super Creeps) and Lodger . They worked together during the pivotal years of Bowie''s career; when the king of glam was assuming and discarding extraordinary personas, Duffy was capturing them all. Written by David Bowie''s biographer, Kevin Cann, Duffy/Bowie - Five Sessions features anecdotes and stories from those attending the shoots - including Tony Defries (Bowie''s manager at the time of Ziggy Stardust); Celia Philo (designer) & Philip Castle (airbrush artist) from the famous Aladdin Sane shoot; Francis Newman (Duffy''s studio manager); May Routh (costume designer) from The Man Who Fell to Earth; Geoff MacCormack (musician and Bowie''s childhood friend); Derek Boshier (art director of Lodger ); Natasha Kornilof costume designer for Scary Monsters; Edward Bell (artist); Steve Strange (musician) and Duffy''s son, Chris, who also worked on the Scary Monsters session. Included are many unseen images and behind the scenes photographs. "It wasn''t until we saw the contact sheets the next day I remember thinking, God this is spectacular. You just knew you had cracked it, boy, did you know it." Celia Philo

Stepping bravely into the cyclone of 21st-century fashions, Harry Styles is more than weathering the storm. Whether he’s breaking the internet with his $7.99 frog-eyed yellow bucket hat or a pair of black fishnets, or fronting cult magazine The Beauty Papers , as he did in March 2021, Hazza’s sparkle knows no boundaries. Gucci met Styles in 2014, and there was instant chemistry. According to designer Alessandro Michele, Harry is ‘a young Greek God with the attitude of James Dean and a little bit of Mick Jagger’ – and that effortless superstardom certainly radiates from the photos in this collection, which document the heart of Harry’s wardrobe, both on-stage and off. Part fashion history lesson, pulling references from the rock and roll greats of the past, and part innovation, Harry’s style pays homage to Kurt Cobain and Marc Bolan, Prince and Little Richard, while developing into something authentic and entirely his own. This chic book fizzles with facts about Harry’s styling choices, presenting the star’s most revered looks alongside pictures that trace the roots of each design. With quotes from key designers, this is the perfect gift for any fan.
